musings of an aquarian age counterculturist

About

I am a  human rights and animal rights activist in equal measure.  I believe that demonstrating compassion toward ALL of our fellow earthlings is a choice we can consciously and lovingly make.

I am joyfully and gratefully vegan.

I am a kundalini yoga enthusiast.  This practise has become nourishment for my soul.

I am drawn to the ways of the wise woman, herbal medicine, forest bathing and magic making.

I am in love with reading.  And writing is my favourite workout.

I am a work in progress.

I am.  I Am.  I AM…

Peace,
eleventhbeatnik

“The human spirit is not dead.  It lives on in secret…. It has come to believe that compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind.”
~Albert Schweitzer

“The areas of human rights and animal rights are not mutually exclusive but rather, inextricably intertwined within the concepts of compassion and non-violence.”
~Eddie Lama

“Be kind whenever possible.  It is always possible.”
~Dalai Lama

“All we are saying is give peace a chance.”
~John Lennon

“One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple.”
~ Jack Kerouac

* * *
Isn’t man an amazing animal?
*He kills wildlife by the millions in order to protect his domestic animals and their feed.
*Then he kills domestic animals by the billions and eats them.
*This in turn kills man by the millions, because eating all these animals leads to degenerative – and fatal – health conditions like heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and cancer.
*So then man tortures and kills millions more animals to look for cures for these diseases.
*Elsewhere, millions of other human beings are being killed by hunger and malnutrition because food they could eat is being used to fatten domestic animals.
*Meanwhile, some people are dying of sad laughter at the absurdity of man, who kills so easily and so violently, and once a year sends out cards praying for “Peace on Earth”.

  1. I appreciate your Spirit…..keep sharing and exploring…best wishes along your Journey.

  2. I love this description of yourself. Kindred spirits … Awesome.

    • Anitra, I bow to your talent. Your writing is poetic. May you show me the way.

      • Just look in your heart and be authentic. Nothing else I could show you other than to say that. I love your story about being hit by a taxi (!). And your letter to your dad – so sad. Mine also passed away too young (and I’ve written a few letters to him somewhere in the memoirs section of my blog). I’ve also written about vegetarianism and dogs. Whew, so many similar topics … You’re a sensitive soul. Keep writing as you find your way through the muck of life. 🙂 Anitra

      • Big love back. Glad to be stuck in the muck with the likes of you 😉
